Default Mama Snapper

I happened to drive by a bog pond just as this lady finished laying her eggs in the gravel alongside the road (successful hatch conditions probably not optimal). She wanted nothing to do with me, and only wanted to get back into the pond, but I was able to get a couple of shots before she did. She wasn't huge by Snapper standards, perhaps close to two feet in length, but I still wouldn't recommend provoking those powerful jaws! The only time I intervene in their lives is when I see one out in the road. Then I'll try to shepherd them to the side.
They never seem to appreciate the help.

What a treat to catch her laying eggs, Nate-- great pics!! I, unfortunately, came across one on the side of the road today who'd been hit. :-(

The one I rescued from the middle of a busy highway was a little bigger than that, not by much though, I can't help but wonder the age of a turtle that big.
The nice man that allowed me to use his lake front property to release the turtle said "I''ll pick him/her up by the tail", I said....."I would do that if I were you".....

I clicked on the red X, but nothing happened. What should I do next to see a turtle? I love turtles!

You may have to reboot [go off PC & go back on] the site.

2 really good photos - too bad the local for her babies is poor. Guess she doesn't understand the road issues - poor old girl.

Whenever we get them walking thru the farm we give them wide birth & help them by the cattle. Once we let the turtle grab a stick & then we lifted it onto the hay wagon for a lift to the back fields.
