I just wanted to point out in the 3rd post 3rd pics, that is the belly of a pregnant female mantis! She got even bigger than that. The following spring I was lucky enough to see the nymphs climb out of the case the size of tiny mosquitoes. Her case was about as big as a walnut which hold 200 o 1000 nymphs. We estimated over 10,000 hatched this year. My yard is so tiny, really only garden. Its a very special and peaceful place for me.

The same row of pics is an adult that just caught a butterfly and is eating it. Gruesome, yet totally awesome and fascinating.

She was such a sweet mommy. She actually had 2 chicks in there. Just before they they hatched I didnt see her leave that nest for days. I kept a close eye on here. She was very tolerant with all the picture taking.

Leigh, Those Hummingbird Moths are cool! We have them here, too. They love my verbena so I plant that flower every year.

Great pics, Leigh. Your garden may not be large, but it is a real oasis for all the little wild things!
