Default Disturbing but interesting videos

Now bear with me, there are three videos to this series. My dad and I are on vacation this week in Northern Michigan. This video was taken 3 days ago, but we just now found a location where we can get internet access.

I don't know my "wild" birds or "backyard" birds well at all, but I think these are crows. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Dad and I were walking the beach yesterday morning when I noticed some wierd diving by this crow in the distance. I watched him for a while and pointed it out to my dad.

Here's the link to the first video: Just so you know, the noise you hear are the waves on the shore. Look at the actions of the bird. Swoops out, swings high, straight dive, swoops out, back up, repeats the whole series.

2nd video

Ok, this one you'll see the bird make an arc and then swoop and a full blown attack in mid air. If you pay close attention, you'll see the attacked bird knocked to the ground. He stumbles and then back on his feet and then we notice a 3rd bird.

Invasion of mating? I don't know. I don't know their behavior. I don't even know if they are crows but I highly suspect they are. Could this be a mom, dad and an injured something (alternate mate, chick, companion?). Could it be part of a flock that is sick and they are trying to kill it from becoming prey?

Mind you, you'll have to watch these videos numerous times to see the details. This one has the details of the crow stubling for about 5-8 seconds on the ground.

Here's the video: up north 046.mov videos from friends & fun videos on webshots

1 more to come.....

Ok, this next one, there is an attack right at the time I start taping, but I didn't catch it on tape so it doesn't count, but it's nice to know when your watching this video in replay or 3 second intervals.

Most AMAZING! Watch the 1st attack. You'll have to watch it over and over and over and over again to catch it. The crow on the top dives for the one below. The one below turns over in mid air to defend itself. He succeeds. They continue on.

2nd attack, full blown mid-air. Then you'll see the third crow come into view on the left. The third crow always stays in the background if seen at all. Very reserved, but always there.

You'll then see the video end with the kamakozee (sp) reaching another arc for another attack....that's it.

I took these videos yesterday morning (I lied, it wasn't 3 days ago) and was just captivated. Thought it was the coolest thing I've seen.....since????..... Rico saw something at the other end of the tunnel.

Very strange. I wonder what they were doing. I am on a laptop with a very small screen so I was unable to view it with clarity. Do you think one was stealing eggs? It almost looked like something was in the mouth of one of the birds or was that just my screen?

Kathie, you are probably right and I didn't think of that until I saw your first post. Which video do you think you saw the egg?

The last one - where you can see the birds closer. But remember, I'm on a little lap top and the video was not real clear. Oh, and I have OLD EYES!!

Haven't been able to watch the vids yet (dialup here), but crows are notorious egg and chick thieves.
