I still find it amazing that you can see this birds out your back door. The King Parrot has to be stunning to see in person.

Lucky to live out in the sticks. The Lorries do visit towns though. I see others, crimsom rosella's they are quite beautiful, red and blue.

The King Parrot is splendid indeed. The most brilliant orange set in green. He is a large parrot, not as big as the Sulpha though.
He has a very sweet whistle. So do the other small parrots.

The Cockies and Galahs are very, very noisy.

Next time the Kookaburra's come in for roosting I will get some pics of them. I did have one of an owl on my roof, but can't find it at the moment.

I took the picture of the King Parrot through my kitchen window, last year. There are normally a pair of them, you can sit out under the tree and they will come within about a metre of you.

Sue, do people try to capture the wild birds or are there laws to prevent it?

People capture them all the time. It is not against the law for some species.

King Parrots are a no, no. People still capture them but if they get caught without a wildlife licence the birds are confiscated.
I prefer to put seed in the feeder out there and watch them wild. I also have a bird bath that they love to wash in.

Capturing wild Cockatoo's is another task in itself though, man they are vicious and go bezerk. I bought one off someone a couple of years ago, we figured in the end it was one of those wild captured ones and sold off as tame. It was one mean bugger. I had it transported from Interstate, cost me a fortune and in the end it escaped. Lesson learnt.
A lot of people climb the gum trees and get the babies out the nest. Others wait till they fill themselves up so much on freshly cut crops they can't fly and then grab them.

I hate these practices, but you can't stop it, I am just really happy when I hear someone was caught. As did happen even here in my tiny town. Lady was keeping Perigrin Falcons. (spelling bad, and the breed was what I was told) She was raided and the birds confiscated.

You do not need a permit to keep Sulpha Crested Too's, Rainbow Lorrikeets, Galah's or Corella's. You do need a Permit and Wild Life licence to keep King Parrots, any Exotic Bird such as an Amazon, which I have to say are very, very rare and expensive to buy here, as much as $11,000.00. U need a permit for conures, etc.

Most of us just stick to our native birds, far cheaper and easier to get hold of.
I only have PBFD birds.

Wanted to add. The market for handreared Sulpha Crested Cocatoos is $500 apx. for a 3month old bird.
Galah's are not as expensive.
Corella's are about the same as Sulpha's.

This is why people like to raid the nests. They make money.
Unfortunately most are not tested. A lot have PBFD, many a pet supplier has had PBFD through their shop and stock.

These birds are actually in my front yard. Not much goes out back because of the dogs. They scare them off.

I am on half an acre here, the properties surrounding me are mostly vacant half or 1 acre lots. The property I had before this was 10 acres. That is where the pictures of the wild cockatoo's was from.

It would be very much like cities in your country. Not too many birds there, but when you go out country you will find them.
