Default Question from an Ekkie friend

A friend of mine has a male SI Ekkie who is nearly a year old. She was wondering at what age the yellow ring around the eye appears. I can't find my Ekkie book (damn kids) and could do with knowing myself as a future Ekkie mum. Thanks guys.

In SI, it is a cream colored iris, rather than a yellow colored iris. It should happen a little after a year old. Differs with all individuals though

Thanks Missi. She said that she can see flecks of it starting so that all fits in with Billy's age. I'll let her know that it is more of a cream then a yellow. Thanks again.

Trichoglossus haematodus moluccanus is the scientific name. In Australia they're garden variety (literally) lorikeets but I think they're also called Swainsons or Blue Mountain.

Abby-

I ask because they look very close to the rainbow...But the rainbows we have in the store have black feathers going across their chest in a criscross pattern.

That would be a green naped lorikeet. They come from Western New Guinea. Teensy bit smaller then the Aussie rainbows.
