Default Opinions on a cage size.

I'm placing a cage order tomorrow for Rico, Rocky and Molly. This has been in the works since the end of April and I just got the phone call yesterday that a group order is ready to be placed. I just got Murray a new King's Cage and getting ready to order the same one for Rocky and Rico. We're going to place an order for Molly too and only have 24 hours to make up my mind on which cage to get. I would like to get the same cage for her as the other guys but my only concern is the bar spacing. Do you think 1" is too big for a female S.I. Ekkie? The other one I'm looking at is a tad smaller with 5/8" bar spacing.

I would love to hear your comment, especially from other ekkie owners and bird owners of birds of similar size.

Here are the two we are considering.

This is the large one with the 1" bar spacing.

This is the slightly smaller one with the 5/8" bar spacing. Ok, I just looked on their site and it says it's 1" also, but the one placing the order told me they talked to them this morning and said it came in 5/8".

Does anyone think I'll have a problem with Molly in a cage this size? Would love to hear your thoughts before I make the purchase. Thanks in advance.

I did some searching and found that many people use 1 inch spacing for their SI's. It seems that any bigger than that is not advised.

I've also heard that 1 inch is fine for CAGs, and they're pretty similar in size to SI's.

My eclectus is in a cage similar in size to the smaller one, but it is a playtop. It also has 5/8" bar spacing. She likes the room to spread her wings- She was in a smaller cage before, and seems to like this one a lot more.

1" spacing wouldn't be too much- There is nothing that they could really 'squeeze' through and get stuck.

I have the smaller one of the 2 you are looking at for my RS pair...it is plenty big for the two of them and no problems with the bar spacing. BTW, they LOVE the drop-down platform at the top (front) of the cage!

Thanks for your input guys. I really appreciate it. I was really worried about the bar spacing being too hard for her to grab with beak and feet and get around on. I went ahead and ordered all three of the large size. Figured I'd go ahead and give her the extra room.

Kim, Molly now has a King's Cage with that front fold out landing on it. She loves it and is on it when ever she wants to come out. I'm sure she'll miss it but I opted for the one with the most room since the bar spacing won't matter. More than likely I'll just leave her cage door open. That landing is usually open at all times as long as I'm home.

Thanks again everyone. I just placed the order.

Lara - beautiful cages, but how will you handle the clean up with no bottom tray? BTW, 1" is fine for Ekkies. They have big heads! Literally!

Hey Kathie. What do you mean no bottom tray? Murray has a cage like this one and there is a bottom tray.
