What should I expect from my eclectus the first few days? How would I really know that I have a RS eclectus? Is there any size difference between the eclectus subspecies?
RS eclectus areso fun! They can have very strong personalities, but are really great birds. RS eclectus look just like Solomon Islands, but are larger.
S/He will proabably be a littler nervous. I recommend giving him/her a little space and not 'comming on too strong'. Simply letting them get used to their environment can make the transition to a new home so much easier! I would quarentine him/her for 30+ days before introducing them to your other birds. Also a vet check might be in order.
Congratulations Jun!! Looking forward to hearing about him and seeing pictures.
I don't know how to tell what subspecies they are, so I'll be learning right along with you. We have members here with Ekkie experience that should be along shortly to help.
Do you know what kind of diet he's been eating?
Edited to add: Thanks for posting Dominique. I was thinking of you as I was typing and didn't see your reply first.
He is 6 months old and I don't know about his diet. He is fully weaned. I am getting him thru Lone Eagle Aviaries from Va. I hope everything goes well on the day he arrives. Cage and toys are ready. I am going to put him in a different room from my grey and caique for about 5-6 weeks. I will be asking alot of questions from you good people in days, weeks and months to come....lol. This is my first eclectus.
