Lara- I try to feed mine lots of colored veggies - sweet potatoes are great and they love them. Broccoli and carrots are great too. I stay away from Harrison's due to the toe tapping issues (it happened with one of mine). Hot peppers are great too - the dried jalepeno are great. Do you do full spectrum lighting? It is a great source of Vit D3. Collard greens contain more calcium than milk. Dairy is not the only good source of calcium. Leafy green foods such as kale, mustard, turnip and dandelion greens, broccoli, as well as almonds (a big favorite with eclectus), Brazil nuts and white navy beans contain good amounts of calcium in its natural form.

Kathie, you have just provided me with another list of great information I will be on the prowl for tomrrow. I do not use full spectrum lighting. I have thought about it numerous times though. Now that you bring it up to me, maybe I should install it in the birdroom (their daily playroom).

ABSOPOSITIVELY!!! (That's absolutley and positively!) I am a huge believer in f/s lighting. There was an entire thread here on it - a lot of different views, but perhaps it will give you some help with the proper bulb to purchase.

Sophie rips up them cuttle bones!! Every once in awhile I give her one and she destroys it in minutes. Fun to watch. Sophie goes in for her first check up in a week. I'm looking forward to see how here vitamin and minerals are doing.

I have read that very little of the calcium in cuttlefish bone is absorbed by birds. Most of the cuttlefish eaten goes straight out in the droppings. The difficulty with calcium is getting it to dissolve inside the gut (taken from birdcareco by By Malcolm Green), which is why a liquid supplement is generally recommended in serve cases.

Our large birds break up the cuttlebones as well, so I break them up myself, put them in a blender and sprinkle on their foods.
