What can I say. Roller coaster. I've experienced living with these guys over the past 20+ years. My first GSC2 (Solomon) was gorgeous. Beautiful nature, escape artist, only pet that ever got the better of our cat. he was named Solomon due to the majestic crown that his crest formed. Unforunately Solomon caught a kidney infection which by the time we realised was too late, he died in my arms on the way home from the vet.
FF and my husband and I have Sandra, our 20yo. She's big, she's loud, she's moody and she loves my husband. Sandra may have been obnoxious all day to the rest of us but the moment he gets home it's all eyelash fluttering. Yes, they do become more attatched to one person. With hubby it's all snuggles, cuddles and kisses. Living in Oz we allow Sandra quite a bit of freedom, wings are clipped enough for her to glide without getting height so she can spend her time either with the family or wandering around the backyard digging, pulling up grass and being a 'too.
I wouldn't recommend one of these guys to someone unless they realised the lifetime commitment, the noise and the neuroticness. I know of one who's hit 90yo. They have a strong personality and a strong will to go with it. On a good day, the most charming beautiful cuddly bird you can find, on a bad, complete nightmare.
With the love of her life
