Default Peggy's beak trim gone wrong.

Peggy went in for testing. It was her first trip to the vet since I took her. I had been waiting for her to be settled enough, I didn't want any set back for her because of the disease.
What was to be a normal beak trim turned into a nightmare.
She is today on a soft food diet. The quick which is present in every birds beak and nails, grows quicker with PBFD. It was at the tip of her beak, this could have been devastating if the vet had not been aware of Peggy's condition and only taken a smidgen off the tip. Had she of cut further, Peggy could have bled to death. Here are the pics of it. I have only just got her back to normal or almost normal today. I had to syringe her feed and water for her into her mouth.

Why would the Vet trim her beak? There is no need to do that.

Awe poor Peggy, I probably would not have had it trimmed...was the growth interfering with her eating?

I am glad she is getting back to normal...how traumatic for her and you too.

I do believe and Sue will correct me, if I'm wrong......the reason the beak had to be trimmed was, with PBFD the beak and nail grow very fast and become overgrown.

Not only PBFD, but any former beak injury can cause the beak to grow abnormally.
Tanks our green Quaker recently sustained a beak injury and now his beak needs to be sanded down from over growth.
He simply can't eat properly and he also finds this uncomfortable.
I am very sorry to hear about Peggy.
Sending my love her way.

Arty

Congenital beak malformation also requires periodic trims. I have a lovebird that has a crooked beak and I need to trim it every now and then so he can eat comfortably.
