Default Re: Peggy's beak trim gone wrong.

PBFD birds are different to others. The disease is Beak and Feather. It can affect either or both parts of the birds, including the nails. It also affects the skin.

Peggy's beak is very black, so is her skin and nails. This has also been an indicator for the vet for diagnosis. (yes the vet was beside herself with the bleeding btw)

Anyway the beak can become very brittle and snap straight off, or it can slowly disintegrate. It can also grow at an alarming rate, As Peggy's is affected it is better to have it trimmed before it breaks than let it happen.

Please understand looking after PBFD birds is not easy, it may seem like it was done for no reason, but it wasn't, I will show you a picture of Manau's beak, it is very hard to keep them fed and watered once this happens.

Poor Peggy, makes me cry. I pray you will wake one day to see all of her pretty flesh soft and pink with lots of new feathers coming in. She looks so sweet.

Doing what you are doing - with the help of your Vet - it is wonderful. Peggy must be special too to be such a good girl throughout this.

I know that I would be a wreck. I am 'working' on that part of my behaviour. I guess the experience is the thing that has opened your heart & mind to what has to be done. You have responded so well to these trials.
I know you feel sorrow & pain but your response is comfort & love. How perfect is that?
