Miki was a bad boy today! He has one of those cages with the disc that hangs down over the feed dishes on the outside.....I thought double taping it would work.......I left the room for 10 minutes and when I came back I heard crunching....he escaped and was removing all the moulding from around the window in big chunks! I know some people tried drilling a hole and using a screw...he will figure that out too! Any ideas?....my boyfriend says, "Shoot the bird". Of course he was kidding! Eventually I will get him a Freedom Cage (Stainless Steel). I noticed on those cages with the outdoor feeder dishes there is a plastic dome that rolls down over the feeders. Does that have a locking device? Looks like a smart bird like mine can roll it in and get out.

Not sure, but I think the way that works is that when you roll it in, it blocks off the opening from the inside.

If you look at the picture (the second one) that Shane posted for me, you will see there is no way a foot can get to the bolt based on where we put it on the door - well, most feet anyway. LOL
I have the same problem with the disc over the door....my bird can escape anything that does not have a key hidden! I am going to think your idea out though! Is the bar going across the feeder closure or facing downwards? Anotherwords did you take the picture straight on? Are there bolts on the inside of those screws that hold it on? I think my bird could undo those and just take the whole darn thing off from the inside.

I was just reading thru these posts looking for a way to prevent my Too from escaping that disc over the seed dishes. I noticed you have a little round key ring hanging down. Years ago when I first got my Too I bought him some toys that used those little round key rings to attach things on hanging toys. Well my bird was playing with one on the toy and was able to separate part of it and got his tongue caught...I freaked..luckily I was close by and able to get that thing off his tongue...since then I run when I see one of those used on a bird toy!
I am going to try to used the idea that came up with....looks like a good one!
There has to be some way to outsmart out birds! I know they also watch what we are doing to then try to undo it! SMART BIRDIES!

I don't have any of those key rings, I think that was Dana who had them. The one I use is the barrel bolt.

Yes, I took the picture straight on. The lock is up and down, not horizontal.

Thanx, I saw the pic that you posted. Looks like the best solution so far. Although I have the HQ cage and I do not know if it will work on there seed dish doors. Gonna check it out. Right now I put white duck tape over the disc but my little bugger works at the tape for as long as it takes until his little toes pull it off! The lock on the door he can open so I have a chain and padlock there...now he knows the same locking mechanism is uptop of the cage to open the playtop.....he actually hangs upside down on top of the cage(inside) and is able to open that lock! Go figure...I do not even think I could do it from inside his cage but he has it all figured out! Someday I will have a bird proof room so if he gets out it will be no big deal.
