I've given some thought to having Sammie's scar tested to see if there is anything going on under the surface that keeps it from healing. He acts like he has ants under his skin I swear....
Sheela is the only one who is a plucker in the house. Several of the others are overpreeners, but only Sheela likes to pull her feathers. I don't do anything because it isn't that bad, and she is half naked already. I think if it was going to get worse, it would have by now, so I"m not going to torment her with a collar. (ooops, sorry Sammie) | I am curious to why Sammie does not pluck outside the cage? Surely a plucker would pluck anywhere, anytime. Is his cage not the source of his frustration? Sorry for asking but I need to learn things and have no experience with pluckers. |

Sammie likes to put his head in his food bowl and talk - what a hoot.
When Sammie sleeps, he sort of drapes one wing over one of his toys. I think it is to maintain his balance since he only has the one wing, so that he can sleep.
Curtains in the bird room! ROFLMBO...yeah, right. I have a hard enough time keeping that room semi dust free, curtains would be a huge mistake. Heck, I have cockatoo dust on the bathroom curtains, and they are on the other side of the house!!!
I love the part about her grabbing pellets and coming to sit with you to watch TV and munch out! |

Sorry for asking but I need to learn things and have no experience with pluckers. | Ha, did I say he didn't mutilate outside of his cage....NOPE! It is just that I can keep a close eye on him when he is out of his cage, and the collar is off. I have to remind him a couple of times when he gets too close to his mutilation spot, but he is pretty good about it. I really have to take it off so that he can preen and get a shower (which he hates). His feathers are so unruly after a few days of not being able to preen because of the collar. But, I promise you, if I didn't keep an eye on him, he would hit his spot. And I will tell you even with me watching, he has managed to hit it, and it immediately will bleed. It is such a vicious cycle. It just never gets to heal before he sneaks a beak onto it. |

#26 | | | Re: Okay, so what to talk about today? My entry door to her cage has that type of latch -- very similar. She mastered that first, hence the chain and padlock. Can't do the chain and padlock on her food doors though.
With this type of latch, she sticks her foot through the bars and jiggles, jiggles and jiggles away until she gets the bolt to move. She is a smart little bugger! Maybe if the latch is "tighter" in the holster (don't you love my terminology?? LOL) she would not be able to get it to jostle free. Don't know, will have to try but if not.....
Back to the drawing board. Any other ideas? |

Any other ideas? | The reason I like the one I have is because when you drop the bolt down into the barrell, you then push it into a little area so that the bolt head isn't in the barrell any more. When you go to open it, you have to slide the bold head back into the main barrell, and then pull up on it. You will have to go an look at them at Home Depot and you will see what I mean. If you look at the picture (the second one) that Shane posted for me, you will see there is no way a foot can get to the bolt based on where we put it on the door - well, most feet anyway. LOL
