I guess the plucking has a lot to do with environment and diet too and not only breeding, poor things, because I don't provide any nesting material, all my birds nest and lay and none of them (except for two chronic pluckers who are not interested at all in nesting) pluck during breeding season. As a matter of fact, one of the U2s who nest (and, mind you, they do it in an empty canary cage they took for themselves, on the bare bottom tray with nothing whatsoever on it!) was a plucker but she stopped once she came here. And they just laid two eggs not too long ago with not a feather being plucked so keep the faith, Barb, because there is hope for those two poor things.

Try taking out the nest box to discourage breeding I think that should be the first thing done to their environment Thanks for rescuing the ex breeders though! I dont think ANY breeder should look like that during breeding season.

I like the idea of getting them up into an Open Flight Cage and having plenty of toys and different size perches and SPACE to move around in

These guys are doing great !!!! when we get birds in like this or ones that are abused, we let them have a nest box, as it gives them a sense of security, we have found taking them right away creates more problems, so by leaving the box they have a place to " get away" if needed, and now that they are feeling more stable they are out of the box more so then in, and eventually we will be able to remove the box. We take things slow with birds like this, and find they respond much better, They are playing with toys now and have new feathers coming in
