Barb, they are breaking me heart....how sad. But so glad they have a life now with you....Perhaps toys that are all wood and not colorful? plain jane toys....

And good question, how do you stop them from breeding?

I gave them a large toy today it has lots of wood leather and a bell, I found the male checking it out and after about 20 minutes he was ringing the bell,I could tell he really enjoyed the toy,They will be given a good life now,and not have to be breeders anymore. They are eating everything I am giving them ,and the male actually took a peanut from my hand today and he was very nice about it. They like when I sit and sing to them,I was making kissy sounds and the male would do it back to me.

Barb, I know you are really busy and there must never be enough hours in the day, but we really appreciate the time you take to update us on how things are going there, and tell us a bit about some of the birds. Thanks for all you do!

Nate, thank you !!! I try to keep everyone up to date on the goings on at the rescue,I may not be able to get on here everyday like I want to,but I get here as much as I can !!
I enjoy sharing with everyone here, you all are so wonderful.

Now for todays update on the new guys , I went in this morning, and decided to give them some seed in their food, they have been on harrisons which is a great diet, but I feel they need some oils and fat in their diet right now,one for their skin two to put some much needed weight on, so as I am filling their bowl, The male came out of the box to see what was going on,he came right over to me and took another peanut from me and let me touch his feet,I was so excited. and he whistled to me as I was leaving. The female is so shy that I need to take things very slow with her. But for him to allow me to touch him was so great.I am just in love with these two,and I look forward to the days ahead with them and sharing their progress with you all !!

Sounds so good thanks for the update. If one of the pair makes friends the other will most probably decide it is safe to be friends also. They do copy each other.

Be careful with those bells in parrots toys, they might contain lead.

And Moluccans pluck themselves when they breed? How strange! I never read anything about that before so I did some research online and could not find anything to that effect. Can you provide a link for me to read about it? I have a bonded pair of umbrellas and they nest and lay eggs but they never pluck. Is this something that you have found only in Moluccans?

The bell is stainless ,I am very up to date on harmful toys etc.. for the birds.
Almost all birds when breeders pluck, they do it to use their feathers as material in the nest when proper material is not given to them.
