Default Nature - Parrots in the land of OZ - Black Palm Too

This is a small part of the Black Palm Too on the show.

They show their ability to use a tool - make a drum out of a stick & hollow tree. Then they shred the stick & add it to the nest.

Thanks Jac! I am going to try to watch tonight. I was glued to the television when it was on PBS a few months ago and I look forward to seeing it again.

Oh, that video brings tears to my eyes, would love to be able to let Shadow fly in the trees like that. He does tap his feet and loves playing with foot toys. Thanks for posting, you made my day!

Maybe you need to try a hollow log & some branches. Do you think he'd drum?

I noted our German member built a hollow log nest for his Zons.

I bet he would drum, a new challenge for him. He sat on my lap watching your video and got soooooo excited. He is in the recall training mode currently, but missed his target tonight and ended up on our window conice! LOL

Sure wish you could post a photo of that! Silly fellow!

How old is he? How long have you been working with his training?

We just started his training. Shadow is 3 now and his feathers were clipped when we got him. We spoke with his breeder who kept him for some time and was flying in his home. We are beginning indoors at short distances since his flight feathers haven’t completely grown in. Gary holds him on his arm and when I call his name, Gary flips him in the air to get him started. He lands on my arm, except when he doesn’t (LOL) and lands on the conice. He is actually missing my arm because he is flying too high. When he gets better accuracy, next we will begin adding a specific cue to signal once he is coming to me and landing securely.

I have decided to get a camera that doesn't take alot of adjusting, lights, etc that I can just have handy that is easy. It takes to much time with the one we are using now. I want one that can take good motion pics because as you know, most birds have a problem sitting quiet very long. LOL
