It kills me to see the number of unwanted teils,They are such great birds and so full of personallity. I just don't understand why they are considerd throw away birds : (

From my limited experience with Tiels - they are not for everyone. They're not suitable for people who really should get a painting [beautiful but quiet] or a Canary [beautiful - nice song].

But many pet stores or even bird people suggest the Tiel as a 'starter' bird. Does this mean they're easier to train/handle/ignore? NO! & Easier than what?

Granted I do not have the experience with the other bird varieties - but few things are simple. I learned it the hard way [& the fish too] when I tried my hand at fresh water aquariums. Any idiot can do it right? NOT!

Some people recommend getting the bird you really want. I think this has merit - but it still doesn't address the problem of ignorance or busy lives. They don't have time or space for a dog - but a bird is easier.....this is what they think. I've never read it anywhere.

With all the pet shows on TV - I wish someone would do exotics & birds.

Ok after weeks not hearing from this guy,He showed up today with 15 of the teils, They are in really bad shape, all missing feathers,skinny,covered in poop, eye infections, and one poor little lutino is a real mess her legs both curl in, she can't perch or even walk, she crawls on the ground,I am just sick about the conditions these guys are in, I could not help but break out in tears when I saw them.

I'd gladly have a few more tiels...Too bad we live in different countries..I can't imagine what thoughs poor little souls are feeling. It breaks my heart to hear such stories. Will these people be reported? Something needs to be done. Hats off to you for your efforts on making a difference for these birds. I hope they can heal and finds loving homes to live out the rest of their lives.
