The Cockatiel is one of the most abused birds, you can find them in just about all humane societies across America, this is a little wonderful bird, they are good talkers, they are great pets period…I have enjoyed the Cockatiel for many years.
Please…..I encourage you to visit your local humane society when considering buying a pet bird, and please remember, bringing a bird or any pet into your home is a life time commitment, never take the love they have to offer for granted.
We have 9 Tiels here, the first little wonder to enter our lives is Joey, a Female Latino Tiel, she is and always will be my little girl, she is close to 15 years old now.
Joey told us there were birds out there that needed our help, she was soooo right, the rest..well...the rest is history.
I tried, but they are way to amused watching their new short term siblings! My FFTs (four foster tiels, I can neither say nor type it well) are still being very quiet, but look out once everyone is comfortable!
That is a terrific list of tiel links, Brokenwing! You are right about tiels being "throwaway birds". FWCAS just rescued 4 sick tiels from the local Animal Control who insisted on keeping these 4 birds in one small cage for 5 days before releasing them to Lynda! They are eating up a storm of pasta and red palm oil in the Rescue Room now.
I love my rescue tiels and I loved the tiels who are now at the Rainbow Bridge. My family has always had tiels and budgies since MY childhood!
I used to have tow Tiels named Luke and Renee. Luke came from an animalerie where he had plucked himself clean and Renee came form a market where she was in a filthy cage and covered in who knows what. They now live with a friend of ours, because I didn't have the time for them after school started and with all of the other rescues that came in. They now live in a massive aviary out in the woods in the summer and they come in in the winter.
An old thread brought to life.
Geee, has it really been that long ago, this thread is over a year old and now I see it come to life.
The Cockatiel Thanks You for remembering them.
Arty aka BrokenWing
I have had many, many Tiels over the years. Hand fed them all.
Tiels are one of the easiest birds to home. I just can't comprehend that they could be throw aways.
