Re: Stuff like this makes me want to kill people --- sensitive material There are many reasons why birds pluck, medical, nutritional, stress, and neglect are the major reasons. most of the birds I get in that are plucking ,are coming from neglectful homes. alot of times once a bird starts plucking it becomes habbit for them, and they continue to pluck, even when put on the proper diets etc..
and then some will let their feathers grow back. In cases like Baby my Blue & Gold Macaw, she came from a breeder, she was used for breeding for 15 years, and she plucked her feathers out of stress and frustration, and now her folicals are damaged and she will never grow feathers.
The biggest problem is people get these birds flop them in a cage and say oh what a pretty bird in the cage, and they don't take them out or interact with them, then that pretty bird in the cage gets stressed, and starts plucking, and having behaviour problems, next thing you know that pretty bird in the cage isn't so pretty anymore, and they end up un wanted in rescues. |
