Default A Nani update

Sorry should have posted this yesterday, must of had a brunette moment
I took Nani to the vets yesterday for his birdy wellness exam. Hopefully should get the results back in a few days. Dr seems to think he looks ok, she commented on how small he is even for GCC. He is a little on the skinny side, weighing in at 64 grams, I was more then a little concerned but she felt his chest and said he has got some flesh there and with a good diet will be fine. Should get the DNA result back in about a week, while the store assured me he is a boy I wanted to be sure. He only got a little upset when she tried to handle him but all in all was a very good boy.
And when we got home I found that his new toys had arrived to so everything is all good. Lilly loves her new toy and is beating the crap out of it as I type, and Silk has claimed all the ringie toys for her own personal use.
He is a very good snuggler, tries to burrow into the gap between my buttons of my flanelette jammies and is right now sitting between my neck and the collar of my jammies, making an occasional Green cheek little chirup. He doesn't like hands so much, is alot better today at stepping up then he was when he came home and I think he is just a sweet little doll. I am going to start converting to roudybush pellets next monday, does anyone see a problem there? Is it too soon or is it a case of the sooner the better? Nani is a seed freak though, he sees me fill his seed in the morning and pretty much just head dives straight into it. I am wondering how he will go converting to pellets please let it be easy lol.
No new pictures of him yet, everytime I point the camera at him he runs away. Unlike Miss Lilly who sticks her face in the camera every chance she gets.

Wouldn't hurt to start mixing in some pellets with his seed and see what he does. I'd be cautious about being too aggressive with converting him where he's already judged to be underweight. LOL, its hard for me to get pics of Quito because as soon as she sees me pointing the camera at her, she stops what she's doing and immediately flies to my shoulder!

I hope the results all turn out okay. Toy arrival day, huh? That's my favorite day (and Ollie's )!!

I'm with Nate on the converting issue. You don't want the little one to go hungry at all. If he takes to the pellets, then wonderful- but I wouldn't push him too hard at first.

regarding converting - i'd slowly convert him too, but why not try some bird bread.... that could be a healthier alternative than just seeds and maybe he likes it....

regarding the weight - 64g is on the light side, but definitely NOT on the "have to be concerned" side... valo was 65 when he came home and slowly (!) worked his way to 68g now.... however, plenty of greencheeks weigh around 65 which is perfectly in the right range for a smaller guy... (so, that being said - since you mentioned he's small, i'm not sure you really have to be all that concerned about his current weight - you just don't want him to loose any.... if you can feel his keel bone and it's not sticking out, he should be fine...)

Your right there Bee, I was the one concerend not the vet. She pointed out to me that he is small even for his species (size wise) and that he is only 8 months old. Its was just a bit of a shock to see just how 'small' he actually is. I think I have become used to having a fat ringneck sitting on my arm.I had just forgotten that green cheeks are smaller then ringies lol, and my ringnecks eat like pigs Like I said, the vet didn't seemed worried about his weight and she felt him and said he wasn't boney.
All the gang here get warm birdie bread (along with their fruit/veg mix) for breakfast in the morning, Nani has tried a tinsy bit so I hold high hopes that he will start relishing it like the rest of the fids do. He gets a good variety of fruits and vegies which he seems to be liking, they only gave him seed at the petstore - well that was all I could see in the cage anyways.

See his poor little tail? All chewed off and ratty. Hopefully it will regrow all pretty soon. Does it hurt having someone chew on your tail?

Nani is now getting roudybush (small ones) mixed in with his seed, I am going to start reducing the seed : pellet ratio at the end of the week. So far he hasn't touched them, apart from pushing them out of the way with his beak.
I am hoping to have his DNA results as well as the all clear by wednesday. Keep your fingers crossed, things take way longer here then they would in the city. I might be just imagining things but I like to think I can already see a difference in him since he came home. He is more livel and vocal now for sure. I hope he likes it here.

What a darling! Nah...shouldn't hurt to have your tail chewed on, kinda like when those helpful fids chew on our hair -- only hurts when they manage to yank it out!

Nani almost gave me a heart attack today, 'bloody' droppings in the bottom of his cage. Panic, then stopped and thought "hmm hasn't he had mullberries, blueberries, red capscium and cherries today? I changed his papers in his cage and watched his poop like a hawk. Sure enough his poops are no longer scary red and back to normal. Lol good thing I checked his cage first, the ringies and Lilly had the same high red fruit mix too and I would have just fainted on the spot if I had seen red poop . Yep red poop all round. I hate when they scare me like that. I tend to worry enoug as it is. Fingers crossed I should have the all clear for him tommorrow. He is snuggling up between my neck and the collar of my jumper as I type.
