Default Harness

Has anyone had any good results with putting a harness on the really little birds. Simon is afraid of everything new. He has been clipped in past years and I do keep him clipped in the winter for safety reasons. He landed on a pot on the stove thank god it wasn't hot and we don't have doors that can be closed. We have used a harness for our Macaw with great results. Summer is almost here and as Simon and I will once again spend the summer at the trailer I would like to allow him the thrill of full flight. The one harness we tried to use didn't work so well.Any suggestions as to brands that have worked for anyone else. I have had the harness hanging on the cage for more than a year and he still won't go near it. Pick it up and he runs into the cage and we haven't even had it on him. Any hint on how to get him to accept it? He is my I don't like anything bird but usually comes around with in a couple of days or weeks except the harness. I really don't want to take a chance on losing him to the woods. sorry if this is kind of scattered my thought are jumping here and there

Default Re: Harness

When I got Ruby's harness the lady at the store gave me the tip to treat it like a toy for a few days. So we just played with it and I would lay the leash part over her back and she would reach around and grab it, then I would pull it and we would start tug-of-war. When I put it on her the first time, she thought it was a game. Maybe this will help. Good luck!

I would recommend the Aviator Harness. It also comes with a video that will show you how to get them used to it and put it on;

The Parrot University Aviator Harness

I agree with Jessalyn, make the harness fun and play with it, talk to it, laugh at it and they will become more curious than afraid before you know it.

Thanks for the suggestions we have tried some on them but will keep trying to get him to take to it. Sorry it took me so long to post but we have been so busy with the warm weather (finally) that I haven't been on line much. Camping season is almost here for us
