#1 | | | A Conure story Hi guys & gals.....I would like to try something.
I would like for everyone to post pictures of your Conure Fid, with a brief story about him/her....you know, how you found him/her....how him/her found you....what the name means....cute, funny, unusual, strange, hysterical, normal, abnormal things he/she does....what he/she says.......etc etc etc. We'll keep it all in this thread, and I will check on having it pinned.
Not only pictures are welcome, but any video's you may have as well.

#2 | | | Re: A Conure story OK, I'll start
My Fid is Pita. He just turned a year old on 4/11. He is a Sun Conure. He has a Godmommie, Bee, whom he spent around a month with after I had a car accident, and was unable to care for him.
Anyway, I first saw Pita when he came into Petco as a baby. I worked there. I and a couple of others hand fed him, but it was my job to make sure he was completely spoiled, and I must say I did an excellent job. I also took on that responsibility for Miss Bella, Bee & her Boyfriends Sun Conure. Eventually everyone at the store said I had to take him since he choose me and we were so bonded....so I bought him in Aug. of '06.
His name Pita means Pain In The Ass......Not a day goes by he doesn't live up to his name, but I wouldn't want him any other way...lol He says the following:
"I'm a good boy" both as a question and as a statement. He also yells it at you if you don't respond to him
"Peek-a-boo" this comes out more eeek-u-ooo.....but I get it....lol
He quacks like a duck, something I think he picked up while he was being boarded during my move. We often go back and forth quacking.
he laughs...hahahahaha....at mostly everything I do
Blows kisses
and does what I like to call his Jason (from Friday The 13th) you know....that whispery he he he he, kill kill, kill....lol
Anyway, he is my sunshine, which is his favorite song I sing to him. He is my world....he gives me a reason to wake up in the morning. I love him more than words can say.
And now here is my little man
he's a smart dresser
can nap anywhere
loves to play
is extremely lazy
loves a good bath & a good meal
...and that my friends, is my Pita Baby. |

#3 | | | Valo After years of living with roommates, I finally moved into my own apartment - what a change. I grew up with 2 sisters and a brother, always lived with somebody else and all the sudden I lived by myself, sharing my apartment with Elmo, the goldfish, and my 55gal tropical freshwater tank... something that I wasn't used to, even at the age of 29.
I was surrounded by birds ever since I was little - but my BF had a negative "bird experience" and wasn't too keen about the feathered guys. I was persistent though - every time we had to buy fish food, we went to see the birds - and one day, there he was. He looked tiny in his cage, but his personality showed by the way he followed us around.... always at the spot closest to us. BF was fascinated - he sat on our hands and looked at us with those cute little eyes. 2 days and 4 books later, Valo came home with us. I had to learn a lot about living with a GCC... Valo is the most active, stubborn and at the same time cuddliest bird I ever had. It's an interesting mixture, and he taught me a lot about respect for the fids... he's my world - just the way he is - and every second spent with him is worth it.
Here is Mr. "Stinkefuss" Valo - "Stinkefuss" means "smelly foot" in german, I never really figured out how he ended up with this middle name.... |

#4 | | | Isabella After reading all those books about proper bird care, I still had plenty of questions and - as a person of today's world - I checked what I could find online.
In another bird forum, I met Gayla - turned out we're living close to each other, and we both had conures. She worked at Petco at the time, and as things go in life I ran into her there by chance. Only took 5min to see that we're on the same wavelength.
One day she called me and told me about that beautiful, lovely sunny they had at the store, and how much she worried about him getting a good home (hint hint). After thinking about it, I realized Mr. Valo already took a lot of my time, and it'd be hard for me to manage grad school, fencing, and TWO birds. Nevertheless, I went to take a look at him - what a clown! And soo sweet. I sure was taken... what a coincidence that my BF, who lives 6hrs south from me, started talking about getting a bird as well at the same time. As a nice, helpful girlfriend without any self-interest I told him about the cute sun conure at Gayla's store. To make a long story short, 2 weeks later we celebrated the family addition.
Turns out, the little cutie wasn't a boy but a girl - and Ms. "Princess" Isabella, also Bella, is absolutely Daddy's little girl and a sunshine everyday! |
