#1 | | | Chico, Chaz, Bubs, Palli and Peaches Here is my conure flock.
Chico, the green cheek conure used to be my little sweetheart. Chico is a rehome. The previous owner didn't like his nippiness and needy attitude. Chico was getting lonely so I purchased Chaz, my maroon bellied as company for him. Since then, Chico will not let me handle him at all. I am fine with that though cause he is happy with a feathered friend, something I can never give him. Chico has an amazing vocabulary for a little bird, when he chooses to use it.
Chaz, is also male and him and Chico are caged together. You do not see one without the other. Chaz (nicknamed CHAZmanian devil) is exactly that, a little devil. He is go go go all the time and think he can boss everyone around. He is lovable with me and I can give him hugs and kisses before Chico comes over to break up the moment.
Bubs, my red throated conure is a rehome. He was not wanted by his previous home because I was told they didn't have the time for him. Now that I have him, I believe he was not wanted becaue he is extremely loud and looooves to bite. He has attacked me so many times that I've had to clip him. He does love to be talked to though and I can by chance (every once in awhile) get a head rub in. LOL He is so adorable though and as I said, can be loud. He can give a nanday a run for their money in the noise department.
Peaches, my peach fronted conure is an older conure. He is about 20-21 years old. I took him from another home who had them since they were babies. These owners loved him but was old school when it came to caring for him. He was in a tiny tiny cage with toys made from fishing line and a salty seed diet. They were not let out of the cage hardly at all and were not handled. I keep saying them because with Peaches was a nanday conure Patty. I lost Patty in October at 23 years old. It was very hard on Peaches at first (and me) but Bubs, my red throat has helped Peaches through it. Peaches cannot be handled but enjoys being talked to. I find he is much more aggressive since Patty has passed because he is afraid that I am going to take Bubs away too. I will go into more detail on Patty in the memorial section when I get a chance to post it.
Palli, my cherry head conure. Where can I start??? I love all of my birds but this little girl has a very special place in my heart. Palli is a rehome as well. Previous owner didn't like her. She was only a year old when I got her, her third and final home. This little girl is my bird, she is so great with me. She is starting to talk really well and I have her shaking hands and learning to roll over. THe greatest things she says is, "I love you". |

#8 | | | Re: Chico, Chaz, Bubs, Palli and Peaches Hi! what beautiful birds! I actually have never have heard of Red-throated conures before, So I went and looked them up, hehe. They are very rare (in captivity), and I was reading about their eye color, it says that they always have dark iris's, and they get their adult plummage by 14 months. I think you are right about him being young.
here are 2 sites I know of that have good info.. : WPT Parrot Encyclopedia - Red-throated Conure (Aratinga rubritorquis) Lexicon of Parrots
Thank you for sharing us your stories, and thank you for being so wonderful to these older birds, we need more people out there like you! |
