Nope, the finches are separated by gender, I let the canaries stay in their pairs. Conventional wisdom is that you usually can only have one per cage, but mine have been quite happy in their twosomes.

Can we have more photos of the babies as they develop? Canaries were right up there when i was looking at a fid. They are such alert looking birds. I like the Java as well.
But the sweet face of the Canary + the songs - well!

do you keep different varieties?

& for the sweet photos!

Will do! One thing I love is that they have an open nest and the parents are pretty calm, so I really can see them every day. It is great fun to watch them morph. Baby does look about the same today as yesterday, though will sit up and look for food when Mom comes to see what I brought her. Like many of my fids, these are rescued -- a coworker's grandpa adored them, but had a stroke. She kept them for quite a while, but her fiance (now husband) was less than thrilled, so they came to me.
