Congrats on the new family member! Your mom sure looks happy. I am glad she found another canary to replace Beau Peep.

Please, make sure she doesn't feed him 'color' food, it's full of chemicals which destroy their liver and kidneys. She can feed him foods high in betacarotene and that will help with the red but, of course, his color will not be as vivid a red as it is now without the chemicals (he's a color-fed canary, color-bred are never fire engine red like he is).

It would also be better if she gets him a bigger cage (he can't fly in there and that will atrophy his lungs) and put it against a wall at eye level (they feel safer that way -stress will depress their immune system- and don't get drafts that can bring on respiratory infections). Also, perches made of natural tree branches will keep his feet, toes and leg muscles and joints healthy.

Aww, how sweet! I'm sure he will be very well taken care of and very happy to be with your mom.

Jess, I have to ask you. How do you always get your pictures in sideways? Is there a trick to that or something? HAH! It cracks me up!

    Cheers!

Cute birdie! She should probably have a bigger cage as Canaries like to flutter and fly.

I've got to say this thread cracks me up!

The sideways photo (what again! )
    - josh coming to the rescue
    - bea & susan's stepping in with some tips that will help your Mom [who looks my age by the way] enjoy her bird even more, which I also think are excellent suggestions & info
    - your amazing revelation, ' I have no idea!'

Oh & I'm happy your Mom got such a happy beautiful bird. May they enjoy life.

I always wanted to get my mom a canary.
She is afraid of all animals but is amused by my Budgies.
