You are a good egg for asking! He is molting and still favoring a foot. He is eating well and all but he is not singing. My mom is a worrier and works with him constantly. She may be just driving him crazy! ha! But all in all he seems fine.

Favoring a foot? I don't remember you mentioning that before... Is the foot swollen or reddish? It could be gout which is caused by excess uric acid brought on by a diet too high in protein. Tell your mother to put him on 60/40 only (no egg, no treats, no nothing else but 60/40) and give him lots of greens and fruits (most especially cherries -black are better- but only the organic kind, cherries in USA are full of chemicals) along with some celery (again, only organic! and she will need to grate it or he might not eat it). She should also make a tea out of some devil's claw, celery seeds and chamomille and use this for his water (Put equal parts of the herbs in a plastic bag and mixing it well put a teaspoonful in a cup and pour hot -but not boiling- water over them and allow to steep.)

Even if he doesn't have gout, his kidneys will appreciate the cleansing.

ps what does 60/40 mean?

60/40 is just the ratio of a seed mix made only of canary seed (60%) and rape (40%). It's also called black and white and it comes in 80/20 for more severe cases (canary is a cereal and rape an oil seed so reducing the oil seed and increasing the cereal makes it lighter on the kidneys and liver). All specialized bird stores sell it but if you can't find it locally, you can always order it from ABBA -phone (908)353-0669 and fax (908) 353-2065.

Mom wants to know if this is a permanent diet or just until he's better? We will try it. He loves cucumber cornbread apple. Or those ok? He's moltng but he has a wonderful appetite and loves to bathe every day. But - something isn't quite right.
Oh yes, he has quit singing and he was quite the singer. he is about 9 mos. old and molting.
