I am feeding. The eggs were late to hatch ( I thought they hatched a week ago!) She was not bathing and raising the humidity, in fact she was completely ignoring the nest. I was impatient, and concerned, and took the eggs from them yesterday morning. The baby hatched out in the afternoon and I was right.... dehydrated and the membrane stuck all over the baby. It is a rough start, but I think we are coming along. I think the other baby will be fine as I have the humidity up.
Good for you, although in my aviary they would most probably be dead as I do not interfere. Often the sounds made by the baby in the egg, get the hen back to her eggs again.
Congratulations Deb! I'm sure you did the right thing in taking away the eggs and helping the baby especially being the membrane was stuck, had you not helped that little baby may not be alive now, great job!!!
I am not promising anything to anyone until the babies are 6 weeks old and have been vaccinated for Polyoma and have a clean health checkup. But with that in mind, I do have several people inquiring about them............ should prove interesting when the babies are ready to go.
No, I am not keeping them. I need another bird like Jerry (SO) needs another Volkswagen (his passion). I have reached, and possible have gone beyond, my capabilities to care for such a large family.
