Default Winston's new cage!!

I went to the pet store today to buy dog and cat food - and I did buy that, but I also bought Winston a new cage!! Oh I am soooo excited!

I've been looking for the perfect dimensions for his current cage spot now and I've finally found the right cage! I would love to get a duplicate of Jerry's cage but I'm limited in the depth space for where he currently sits, and Jerry's cage is too deep to safely sit where Winston's cage is.

But today I found this:

It's 26" long x 14" deep and 22" high - absolutely perfect, in all dimensions for where his current cage is! Driving all the way home I thought, "Ahhh crap, I can't remember the height restrictions and this might be too tall!!" But I just put it up and it was made to sit on top of this bookcase!

I wish it was white, like their current cages, but the light blue matches Winston's blue color nicely. Tonight I'll let them all check it out while they're playing and move in some of the spare perches and things I have laying around - not sure when I'll move him in, it depends on how scared he is - I hope he takes to it quickly.

And I literally just took pics of it when I walked in the door - so yeah those perches will be going (might leave one in, we'll see) and I have different dishes and such.

Cool! Once all his favorite stuff is in there, I'm sure he'll settle in quickly.

Nice looking cage! Make sure and post pics once you have it all set up!

I've been keeping an eye out for something a bit bigger for Ziggy. I finally found a cage that, at first looked perfect! It was a really nice size and only $75. I was just about to buy it when I realized it only had 1, very small door, right in the middle on the front. It would be nearly impossible to clean the entire cage without taking it apart and can't imagine trying to get a bird through the door! I was so irritated! LOL I sometimes wonder what these cage makers are thinking when they do things like that.

That looks very nice Sarah. I love the color! I hope Winston takes to it right away. I know we all stress so much about these things.

I love that the cage is 26" long. You are right. It looks perfect to sit on a bookcase. I hope Winston likes it as much as we do!!!

So.....I've had it sitting out in the living room while the birds are out playing. I cleaned it and wiped it down earlier and my hopes are to put a few extra things in tonight. Winston and Jerry are flying about as usual, not really paying attention to it.

My dear Lulu......is absolutely terrified of the cage!! It has been a challenge for her to even be in the same room as it, every time she sees it she bolts and flies out of the room. She's now actually sitting on her big gym in the room with it, but my gosh you'd think it was a huge ugly monster that's trying to eat her!

I'm trying to get Jerry in or on the cage so that she (and Winston) can see it's ok. I've put a rope perch in, a swing, and a bell toy to motivate him to go inside.

Yes I've been looking for the perfect longer cage - Jerry's cage is actually 30" long but it's 18" wide so it's too wide for the bookcase if I were to get that for Winston.

He's all moved in this evening and taking to it well so far:

(he's down in the lower right eating here)

I sat the cage in the bird room all last evening and all day today and Lulu finally got used to it. Then when they came out this evening I opened Winston's old cage right up to his new one (that already had 2 perches in it) and he hopped right in. Then while he was in it I slowly moved the rest of the perches and all of his toys and by that time he was content. He's just finished eating and is playing with toys - whew! I'll let the boys stay up awhile so that he can check it out further.

And yes, once tonight Jerry and Winston were in the cage together - I was curious to see how they reacted in a neutral cage, but there was no difference. As soon as Jerry started getting too hyper Winston flew right out. And Jerry is always happy to return to his cage on his own, so we'll continue to house them separately unless they tell us differently.

It feels so good to FINALLY be really satisfied withe ALL the fids' cages!
