I just put the birds back in for the night and they're all eating a bedtime snack. Winston was fine tonight, he and Jerry played all evening, so it doesn't appear to be bothering him at all.

Thanks for all the concern - I get pretty paranoid when something happens.

I use regular table flour here to stop bleeding.
I am pleased all has went well and Winston is okay.
Winston could of had a little toe jam and nipped himself while preening, I am reading you have looked everything over well, it might be a good idea to keep a eye on Winston (don't let him see you) he will lead you to whatever has hurt him....he will be leary about the area in question, weather a part of the cage or even a toy maybe, but he will show you were the issue is by his body language...
Take Care
Arty

I found that those hulls can be sharp like a knife... and they do get stuck in those twists.. also another helpful hint is if you use a perch for step up or your finger and you want to getaloa gel or med on their feet put med on perch or finger and have bird step up. that way there is no stress to them...

Yes that's a great tip! I've used a similar technique when I trimmed one of Lulu's nails too short one time. Instead of restraining her (which I can do just fine), I dumped some flour into a small plate and just had her walk through it and it worked great as a way to get flour up into the short nail.

And those tiny hulls ARE sharp - when I break up Avicakes with my fingers about once a month or so I get one of the tiny ones wedged under my thumb skin like a splinter LOL.
