Default Spice is sneezing

Spice has an appt. at 4. He has been doing some random sneezing with no discharge but this week end he started sneezing a lot. He woke me last night sneezing and was doing it again this morning before we even woke up. He seems healthy in every way except that. He had a sinus infection this summer , had a sinus flush, 2 wks of meds and nose drops daily. I think it may be back. We'll see.

It's probably is the sinuses. It's also allergy season too. I've been noticing some extra sneezing here myself. I was into the AV just last week and nothing is amiss in regards to what may be causing it so we're chalking it up to allergies. I started up the humidifier again and that has helped also.

Sometimes a steam bath helps them. You can get the bathroom all steamy for them and spend some time hanging out... while your hair frizzes.

I hope Spice is feeling better very soon. Please let us know how your appointment goes.

Hmmm...hope all goes well....please let us know!

I never really heard anything about birds having allergies before I joined this site, but it certainly interests me. Maple has always sneezed occasionally but certainly not anything out of the norm. However, since we got Harley we noticed he sneezes more often and his "nose" is often a pinkish hue. It doesn't seem to bother him, there is no discharge etc, and he JUST had a well bird exam a couple of weeks ago and the vet said everything looked great. Maybe he has a mild allergy to something ( I know mine are acting up these days). Anyone that could elaborate on the topic would be great!!

Kris do you have a humidifier for the birds? Also I would suggest you try a few steam showers for him. You may want to specifically mention these symptoms to your vet and see what he/she says.

Edited to add: We've already had a few chilly nights where the furnace has turned on, that can also dry them out.

We do have a cool air mister type thingie....not quite a "humidifier". We live in military housing and they actually discourage tenants from using them due to mold issues. But I find the air here quite dry personally. Maybe that is the problem. Steam shower sounds like a good idea too. I will be sure to ask my vet about it as well. I was also wondering about nicotine....his past owners smoked and I know they handled him after smoking without washing their hands. The vet told us it might take a while for all affects of that to disappear and to make sure to shower him regularly to ensure to get any residue off his feathers. We don't smoke....but just a thought???

I hope that Spice is ok - it's good that there's no discharge. My boys sometimes sneeze occasionally, but I do notice it more when it's allergy season or less humid. As the season is changing we're seeing less humidity here and some sneezes.

Thanks for the advice everyone! That is probably the case...dry air! Will have to remedy that.

Hope Spice & all the sneezers are OK.

Mold is often found in the autumn leaves - Maplebird i was looking at your photos of your bird flying around - wouldn't want to discourage that! - but maybe pollen etc might be on his wings??? Would a hepa filter be OK in those homes? [PS - you at camp Borden? - my brother taught there for a while in the 80's]

Nope don't think it's the pollen, but that's a good thought! He was sneezing before we started to fly him, and that only happens about once a week. Hepa filter might work too.

We are in Trenton...about 2 hours from Borden...been there a few times however!
