It seems like yesterday that Rio started this business of trembling early in the morning.
Now he trembles at night as well.

He trembles when I open the cages - he trembles when he greets Laker - when he eats - when he checks out his area - when he is put to bed.

I haven't got any video equipment so I tried to photo him ...

Just into the feed right off & already building up speed with the trembles.


Now the wings are out in full tremble.



We of the old & cheap cameras - can get some pretty fun colour effects of a white ceiling in the morning light.


Isn't he lovely in the morning light? - note the chewed edges of the Snake plant. You can see his tail is trembling in the last photo. & Sarah's gift is pretty ravaged - only a small red tail hanging down these days.

PS - the Millet sprigs are rotated from last night's feast - they get to work the underpart in the mornings. It's 'wilda' Millet - they have to work pretty hard to get all the seeds.

I wonder what it means that he's trembling so much, if it's just pure excitement or if there are hormones or something involved..

I think it is pure excitement. It does stop after about 15 min. He will do it periodically during the day as well.
I can't remember the whole story but the other day my son was walking down the hall with Rio [surprise! - he was on the shoulder not the hand - still won't step up] and he was trembling there as well.

He doesn't step up at all except at bedtime. He is still very opinionated about that. Unlike Winston he has a great grip & strong young legs - so no excuses there.

The hormonal part is his 'love' affair with my hands in the morning. It has become a morning ritual. He flies over to the bed to hang over my head & sing to me. I reach up & he goes crazy - running to my hand & dancing & singing in earnest. If I don't reach up to him he lands on my head or the edge of the covers & sings even harder. The only way to stop him is to get up.

He's so cute! Ollie trembles when she's really excited, but it doesn't happen daily.

Sweet Ollie. Bunny trembled too - but I felt in her case it was a toss up between excitement & then other times, uncertainty.

Laker has never trembled. Never. He does make special sounds tho when he's excited [just before feeding] - kind of a growl/chirp [different from his angry growl]

Most of the suns tremble in excitement, Peanut does summer salts over the perch if you don't hurry. Honey trembles with wings out the way Rio is pictured, but in a little more forward position, a happy, excited tremble, feathers flat. Beasts trembles straight up with all feathers raised, he is pretty much seriously angry.

Winston trembles in excitement as Rio does (feathers flat, usually leaning forward a bit). Jerry trembles only occasionally but he does what Peanut does, somersaults over his perch when he's super excited.

Rio is wanting something. Let me think..... what could it be?

How cute that he gets so excited. I've never seen either of my budgies tremble.

That position of Rio's is like that of a budgie which is too hot. Maybe he's a bit warm-blooded and gets hot easily, like some people do. Budgies don't sweat; so they lift their wings and tremble a bit to cool off.

If the mouth also goes open, the budgie is very overheated.
