Talking Rio Rocks! .... finally a triumph.

We have almost always had a challenge getting Rio into his cage at night.
Laker hates to share his cage at night. He fights with Rio & doesn't do his happy sounds or even eat - which he does as he is about to roost. My husband came up with the idea of moving Rio's cage as well as Laker's, at the bedtime event. We put the gym where the cages are during the day & Laker's cage does on top of a book case & now Rio's is on the dresser. As soon as we did this he became more willing. I have taken to giving him his special treat at bedtime - grass heads.
He gets the treat in the cage.

Tonight he flew to his cage as we put it on the dresser. He find of fell in his attempt to land on the dresser - there is no outside perch to his small cage & i'll be looking into that asp.
He then hopped up into the cage on his own! of course he got his treats.

I'm so pleased. He's finally getting more friendly - over the past month he's made great progress & even seeks me out - not always Laker - we have given him lots of time. I knew he was smart but just a bit 'wild'.
He just turned 6 mons old today.

Oh the visual. Your choice of emoticons have me laughing! Great news that it's all starting to click. I would say Rio is exceptional to be doing that well for his age.

Also, Kudos to you guys for thinking through the situation and making some changes so everyone is more willing to cooperate on their own. I find myself doing this often, trying to see things as they do to work through a difficulty. I also use a special treat that they only get at bedtime.

Good job Rio!

Interesting that such a small solution as moving the cages makes such a big difference.

Little Rio, he's still a baby - I agree with Karen that he is making great progress for being so young and adjusting to sleeping in a cage at night vs. his aviary setting at the breeders.

Thumbs up Rio's continued triumph.

I see that a month has gone by & Rio continues to improve.
Not that he hasn't had his nights were he was a 'very naughty' Budgie
- or was it attack of the outraged Budgie
... i can't remember exactly

He has just turned 7 months old & maybe doesn't need to protest bed-time.
To his credit, he has now for the past 2 days gone to his own cage to sing his sleepy song & wait for his night treats!
The first time i looked to find him - hearing his happy night song & was so surprised he was in his own cage!

They can see the street lights go on & even tho they have their FS light by their cages they're both ready to go to bed.

Laker is also very upbeat - he is so happy to have his cage to himself & his 'stuff'. At night he really gets less egger to share.

Yippie for Rio. He's making great progress. One day he might surprise you and close his door.
