Neither of my budgies (my linnie, too) will take a bath in their tub or dish. I always spritz them. I spray above them so the mist falls on them, never directly at them. Because of Spice's sinus problems the vet wants me to mist her every other day so Sugar gets it at the same time. I put their cage in the bath tub so I can give them a good soaking. It is really important to do this in winter as my house gets very dry. We have forced air heat.

I think spritzes are fine.

Have you tried taking them in the shower with you? It seemed that my guys didn't really know what to do until they saw me in the shower and of course I pretended it was the best thing ever

I've also heard that budgies love wet leafy greens, like big lettuce leaves - try offering some of those and I've always been told that they like to wiggle around in the wet veggies (green grassy veggies would probably work too). Might be something else to try.

Sarah's reply reminded me that I will cut a large bunch of parsley, rinse it off so it is dripping and hang in their cage. Spice loves climbing in it and getting wet.

I also give 'forced' misting baths.

If someone comes up with a sure fire method that works in a number of steps I'll go for it!

I even mist them as they fly by - it doesn't hurt the humidity of the room, as long as I avoid the furniture. In nice weather I take the cages outside & mist them. Like Nancy said - I also use the gentle falling mist as well as the direct hits technique. It's over fairly quickly & they can get on with their day.

Thanks Nancy - hadn't though to take the cage to the bathroom!

I've seen some pretty fun videos about Budgies bathing in those clip-on cage baths. ... I was thinking of trying one out.
[go to U-TUBE - Rocky and the Bird Bath - Budgie Update #7 by Gumleyboy - shows him flicking water from the bath onto the bird, with his fingers, & later the bird using the bath. However he does state in a later message that Rocky prefers a jar lid to bathe in rather than the bird bath.]

I have been offering a flat plant saucer on top of the cages - with a small island of sprouts to get them over there to look at it. So far Rio sees it as an excellent 'wild water' spot - gets his face wet & shakes the drops everywhere.
You'll hear great excitement if he ever bathes!

Laker is much more resigned to the bathes than Rio. They look much better with the bathing so I would continue until we find a magic solution. I'm sure if only one would get into it the others would follow!

Have you tried running water? - I did have some success with Laker when he was an only bird & didn't have a pest chasing him off all the time. He tried the bathroom sink. I was able to place him in the sink again, just last week, when Rio was busy, but he only drank the water.

Sarah - I only had Laker in the bath once. As I don't like cool shower - it didn't happen again. [+ Rio was so wild when we first got him he really didn't let that happen again] He flew to me as I recall & watched the water falling, perched on my head or shoulders.

I have seen people using a small fountain - doesn't Sally have one for her Chipper??? - or is it someone else?

I am not convinced budgies enjoy or need baths as much as the South Americans. Budgies are Australian dust birds, in their natural habitat they don't have access to year round water. They do enjoy something like the early morning dew on plants, and that is why they prefer plant baths.(wet leaves) Some of my budgies take half baths, just flick a bit of water on the belly and the back. They do have a bit of rain showers but nothing like the IRN and suns enjoy. Peewee the tamest budgie will sometimes run thru running water in the sink or basin but not a priority. I have seen the budgies rolling around taking dust baths.

Parrotlets on the other side are very much mini amazon complete with the water desire.

Interesting points.
I don't think I'm up to giving them a dust bath tho
Whether they take to it naturally or not, they do look better for the bathing IMO. But in my case i often forget so they are bath free for days at a time. Molting can be easier on them I think if the pins get wet.
