I think that is wise.
Laker came to me with his cage, from the last home he was in - probably were quilted into it. I paid for it too, so the shelter wasn't out. I think his last owner was not ready for birds thankfully so wasn't thinking of getting more. The shelter just said he somehow didn't work out - probably bought him to give as a gift.
.... Pets are such a complicated issue - especially long lived ones.
I have morned many pets who lived out their lives with us. You always want a pet that lives longer - at those sad times - i would have had my cat forever if i could have. But when your life changes - life & change are one - you think it is a good & wise mercy they have shorter lives. My one hold back on getting a bigger bird is their longer lives & all the heart ache that goes in that direction. The older i get the harder it is for me to commit to another pet. Now i understand why my Grandmother refused another pet in her last years, when she'd had so many & watched them pass away.
