if you notice tj's beak not sure why

tjs beak looks like it is peeling any suggestions. he did damage it about a week ago and i know it will continue to grow no infections..

I'm sorry I can't help - we'll have to wait for more expert advice. Have you had him examined by anyone knowledgeable?

Could you explain the trauma?

Only time Laker's beak has looked odd was when he must have cracked it when he flew into the closet. But it had a crack that was horizontal - in one piece - not flaky. It grew out.

Does this bird use the cuttle bone or the mineral block? I have both & they use both.

Not Sure What Happened I Think He Tried To Get Out Of Cage Just At The Top Of Beak (looking Strait On) Left Side Indentation With Small Amount Of Blood 2 Or Three Weeks Ago About The Time Just After One Of The Members Birds Had The Same Accident. . I Will Try To Get A Close Up Of That Side. There Is No Infection And No Not To Vets Yet. As It Doesnt Seem To Bother Him. I Was Just Wondering.... Thats All.. Thank You For Quick Response...

Would he have worn it on the sandpaper?

Is it 'sandpaper' or that funny plastic perch that's all grainy? I have the plastic type but they only use it to get from A to B.

I HAVE NOTICED HIM RUBBING HIS BEAK BACK AND FORTH ON THE SANDPAPER PERCH BUT (NO NOT PLASTIC) i HAVE MANY TYPES OF PERCHES SANDPAPER. CEMENT OUTSIDE OF CAGE SANDPAPER COVERS ON WOOD PERCH MATERIAL PERCH .

He will probably repair it himself, but if you can have a look in the feathers right next to his beak for mites. Mites make the beak go funny and miss formed eventually, easily treatable with "flea powder" for birds, - pet shop product. The reason this can be a possibility is that the peeling extends into the cere.

I Sprayed With Mite Killer Just To Be On Safe Side . Followed All Instructions And Yes I Did Look At Beak Real Close And It Does Look Like Some Of The Images I Have Seen With Mites . If It Doesnt Get Any Better By Monday I Will Def Take To Vet.

This Is A Subject That I Am Concerned About Mites???????
What Causes Them. I Do Clean Cage Daily And Wash Food And Water Dishes Twice Daily. Morning And Evening.. I Take Cage Into Bathtub Every 3rd Or 4th Day For The Whole Cage To Clean. As Well As All Other Areas That They Can Get At..

I Have Read That It Is Due To The Bird Not Being Healthy Etc. ..
But I Sure Hope It Is Nothing To Do With The Care I Give Them I Would Feel Just Awful.

This Spray Says To Do It Twice And To Hold Can 60 Cc Away From Cage And Spray Which I Have Done. I Wipe Things Down With Lemon Juice On A Rag. Am I Allowed To Use Bleach.
I Would Be Concerned With Bleach....

please read Scott's description of Pogo's mite problem. They hid in the corners of the cage. They could come in on clothes I suppose.
