Default Flying together

For a test I let the 2 [Laker & Rio] out together.

It was crazy - very frantic. Laker flew away from Rio & Rio followed him everywhere. Rio flies with a loud sound & seems to dart. Laker is much quieter a flier & has a variety of techniques. They did hit the window a few times - but no big thuds!

Every time Laker landed, Rio came too. But as soon as the baby came up beside him, Laker would take off again. At one point Laker flew to me & I put my hand over him. Rio landed in the hibiscus tree. When Rio wanted to join Laker on my knee, Laker took off again.

Round & round they went. Finally they landed for a bit on top of the trellising - Laker must have been tired. Then I called him to me & he came right away & i let him go back to our room where he rested, preened & waited for me. Rio wanted to be out for longer so I left him in Jack's room while i finished the laundry. When i was finished he was ready to step-up & go to his cage. He wanted to see Laker.

I'll try again later today - maybe.

Sounds like fun even if Laker is not ready to be friends yet.

See Laker's eyes! He was hyper.

Rio is tired here - his wings are out to cool down.

Gee, that all sounds so familiar! Love the pictures (I really love the different hues of blue on Laker) - in that top pic of them together I notice that Laker is on his tip-toes, my boys do that when they approach each other too, mainly Winston. I remember the first days they were all out together - pure chaos indeed! It still is chaos, but much more controlled.

Laker's reactions sound similar to Winston's - Jerry is generally the pursuer and half of the time Winston will fly away from him and that starts the on-going game of tag.

You're in for a fun ride!!

Just saw the next pic you posted - Winston is still not up to Jerry's flying level of expertise - he tires out and holds his wings out like that every night. If he's too exhausted I let him have a rest in his cage or if Jerry goes back to his cage I take that opportunity to let them both cool down - temps are getting hot recently but not hot enough for the air conditioner yet, but Winston may be the deciding factor as to when that gets turned on.

Laker is looking great these days - his molt was worth it - his colours are very intense. He will also fly around one room, down the hall & around another room before stopping. Even then he isn't out of breath - just very happy.

I feel badly keeping the baby in the cage most of the day but I want Laker calmer. It's probably good training for the baby as well - getting used to the cage - if we have to go away at all.

Rio's colours just don't photo well. He really seems to be a lavender colour - more purple than blue. & as you can see from the photos Laker also looks different - the flash lightened his dark blue to a sky blue [i'm always confused - is he a sky or a cobalt].

It also takes Jerry quite awhile before he tires out flying (which is why Winston has trouble keeping up!).

From the back Laker looks more cobalt but I know what you mean - in the front he photographs kind of like a sky blue but with a cobalt undertone. Maybe he just has a mix of both in him.

Rio does look blue in his pics. They both look fantastic though!!

Default 2nd fly time + huge hang out

I put them together again - i brought my book - read for a while & then apparently fell asleep [darn - i don't feel refreshed! But can't complain about the life-style.] So they hung out for about 2 hours.

Here's Rio wiping out - i thought this was pretty cute - he went round & round the lamp.

This is Rio's approach & assault on Laker. Boy was he excited.

Default hanging out

I think so. I guess the past 3 days of hanging around the fresh grass seeds must have been helpful.

The flying was still pretty frantic - they were both tired I think from this morning's excitement. Laker did keep the same distance between them - he wouldn't let it narrow.

Rio's back in his cage & Laker is asleep on his gym.
