Default Budgie Play

Anyone who has a baby budgie has probably seen them playing.

I got Laker when he was already mature. There is no way to know what his life was like before he came to me. I've had him now over 10 months. I've tried to get him to play - i play & play with balls & tops & anything i can think of. Next to nothing - maybe a little play, but nothing on his own. He will play a tug of war with a ribbon. Kind of a guy game. Otherwise, I've kind of given it up.

Yesterday, while my husband was reading in bed - Laker flew to the bed & started pestering him - preening his beard, trying to trim his book etc. So he got the tin jar top & offered him the wooden ball & plastic tops again. He played & played & then played some more. He did it again tonight.

Here I though he was too old to play.

Here's a shot of him playing last August - well he was investigating really. These are the toys he was looking at - kind of.

Jac, how long have you had Laker? I noticed with my older birds it took a good long time before they started playing.

It is funny how they store away little bits of knowledge and surprise us.

Hey Liz, long time no see....what happened to the budgies, thought you had a couple left from the flock?

Aww, that's great that Laker really played! After Winston's mirror goes away I will be interested to see if he plays much - but with Jerry around, who plays 24/7, he will hopefully show him how to play.

We rehomed a few Budgies with people who needed some happiness in their lives. A few died of old age, a few we gave to our breeder friend and sadly... Cloud got outside, I was running after him, he couldn't fly but he was running pretty quickly across the grass, I reached him and the neighbors cat came out of no where and grabbed him. I wasn't as fast as the cat and can't climb tree's so that was the end my Budgie soap opera.
