Default Budgie Age Estimate Question

Does anyone have any good data on how old a Budgie might be when they start to get new feathers on their foreheads and their “baby bars” start disappearing?

Rio was born April 1st. He lost his tail feathers July 9th & he was heavily into his head & body molt by July16th. He was 3 1/2 months old - in his 4th month of life.

I suppose it could happen later than those dates.

Budgies start their juvenile molt at around three months of age and the baby bars are all gone by the time they are six months old.

Here is a photo of Ziggy showing his new feathers starting on his forehead and some pin feathers near his beak. These all appeared in the last couple of days. He had none of this when I got him a week ago. So I'm thinking he was probably about 11~12 weeks old when I got him.

He's probably 3 months old at this point.

Cute photo - is this how you're bonding - offering pin feather relief?

i found a site that shows the bars and where they should be during molt and tells how to figure out how old... dont know how accurate it is... but jo jo and tj are both about 5 to 6 months old based on the bars and where they are on head.......... i am no expert by any means but thats what i have been researching today. and thats what i have found out so far.....

LOL ... Ziggy does let me scratch on his head now, so maybe that's why.

I haven't given an update lately on Ziggy's training which is going very well ... I've got some interesting observations to share. I'll post something up in the other thread about Pogo's companion.
