#3 | | | It breaks my heart that people abuse discard budgies so often. I'm sure that sweet tiels are abused and neglected just as much, given how inexpensive and readily available they are.
As everyone here knows, Jerry is my heart and soul and how anyone could not see their huge personalities is beyond me. Early this morning my husband and I walked into the bird room and he said "Missed you guys!" He melts my heart just looking at him.
Beautiful birds, Arty - I especially love that first picture, what a sweetheart.
Arty, I'm curious what kind of diet your budgies are on? |

Last year alone I counted 5 Keets eating with the wildbirds at our feeders.
Well it get's down to 30 below zero here, and my heart breaks.
The Parakeet is the number one abuse bird, they are so cheap to buy, dog trainer's buy these birds to train there hunting dogs, These birds are simply released into the wild when no longer wanted, they are bought to feed snakes.
These issues are what make this little wonder the number one abused bird.
The tiel is number 2.
I feed my keets a premium seed mix.
They enjoy pasta, pasta is given 3 time a week, pasta helps control fatty liver disease.
I chop up mixed vegi's and sweet corn, sweet potatoes, and they simply love un buttered-un-salted air popped popcorn.
I also provide a multi vitamin once every 2 weeks.
A breeder called me, seems he had 8 keets he couldn't find homes for, he and his wife were going seperate ways, he was asking $10 a piece for them, I gave him five a piece, out of that 8 I have lost 2 to cancer and 2 more have cancer, a genetic issue, none of the other's are showing any sign of sickness.
Take Care

#10 | | | Thanks for sharing your Budgies with us. I liked the 1st one very much & my son liked the yellow one. There is a Budgie for everyone.
It is amazing that so many people aren't aware of animals feelings or that they suffer. They don't even see that they can laugh or be mischievous.
I try to spread the word - it is the least we can do.
That's very interesting about the pasta. It's good news to me.
Laker will go for the Asian noodles which are similar i think - he eats them & he also goes for the sauce. He only eats them if i drape them on the side of the cage or if he has access to my meal. Won't touch them in the food holder. He has shown no interest in any other type - but then again I'm partial to them these days so he sees us eating them.
He also eats live sprouts but hasn't ventured into birdy bread - only apple pie & rice cakes. |
