Hi, Sarah!
Was a long-time lurker here and just joined - didn't want to miss out on all the fun

Aren't baby budgies something else? So innocent, so cute. And then they grow up

Great pics and videos. Keep it up!

Brad and Flock,

I'm so pleased to see you here! What a nice picture of Louie for an avatar!

I love to hear more about what's going on with the flock. I'm sure everyone else will too. Never a dull moment!

My three baby budgies now have two younger siblings, one just like its mom, opaline spangle grey and another double factor spangle -- this time pure yellow. I hope to get pictures soon.

Do you know yet if your ringneck is boy or girl?

Fun.

Sarah

Hi,

Here is a photo of the second round of two new baby budgies. They are pictured with two budgies from the first round.

This time they are a yellow double factor spangle hen and an opaline spangle grey cock.

Baby budgies 2008 - second round on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Fun.

Just great - thanks for posting the shot.

The Opaline Spangle Grey Cock has a wonderfully shaped head already. Am I right? - is this a feature you are looking for? - or is it just a natural variation of head feather language? My older bird's head is more squared off looking than the 1 year old & I thought it was a maturity thing. But now I see it in a very young bird.

Again, another successful clutch.

Smile Re: 2008 baby budgies - cute

After my beautiful mother bird died trying to lay a third round while ill with a cancerous spleen -- the vet sent a sample to the lab; and it was a vicious cancer enlarging the spleen so she couldn't lay -- I felt sorry for the male bird who was suddenly alone in the breeding unit.

So, I went a caught the beautiful mother bird's daughter sired by another cock the previous year. She is a sister to my Merton and Fenton. I thought, "I paid a fair amount of money to purchase these English budgies from the top breeder; I might as well continue breed them."

It took until a few weeks ago for her to settle and lay; but now I have a single new baby budgie from the pair. It is just like her mother, who had a single chick, Merton, in the first round.

One has to watch a nest with a single budgie chick lest the parents neglect it from boredom; but, so far, the new mom is excited about her baby. The new mother is beautiful sky blue; so the baby has a chance to be gorgeous green like papa or gorgeous sky blue like mom or double factor. It is only about 10 days old now.

Ahhhhhh that's a bitter sweet story. Sorry to hear about the lovely Mom. So tender that the daughter is turning out just like your lost love.

All the best - am looking forward to the next round of photos. I hope the baby does well.

Without knowing the 'breeding' background, how does anyone figure out the bird is a double factor Spangle? - they are solid yellow right? If you had a bird like that I guess you'd have to breed it to see if it would throw a visible Spangle?
This breeding info is a fascination for me - I don't plan on breeding Budgies.

I look forward to the photos.
