Default Tucuman Amazon

Does anyone own a Tucuman Amazon or know of anyone who owns one?

Sorry, this is the best picture that I could find of one that would allow me to copy and paste. It doesn't give the detail in the edging of the feathers as I wish it would. Now keep in mind, I don't know my amazons very well so correct me if I'm wrong on anything. I'm finding my information from the Lexicon of Parrots.

They look much like the red lored, do they not? One major detail that they hold are the black edging to their feathers, except for on their wings.

We had a rehome Tucuman come into the store several years back... Sweet bird, on the small side, very pretty and VERY loud. It found a home and the people are still very happy to have him for a companion. I do not know if they ever ran DNA on him. If I recall correctly, they are not great talkers. In fact, I do not think this one talked at all. I may be wrong...

Susan, no new addition here yet. We had a guy call the clinic yesterday with questions on a Tucuman. I had never even heard of one and jumped on the computer and started searching.

Deb,

Am I correct in saying that they are endangered? Someone had told me they were.

Yes, very much so. It was the first and last I have seen in my 30+ years of bird exposure. It saddens me they are so rare. Other than the noise (what Amazon does not have its moment of noise?) it is a very sweet, good natured, loveable bird. It much reminds me of the Spectacled (or White fronted). Another much overlooked Amazon.

Well, then I had seen my first and probably my last Tucuman yesterday. This bird was very well behaved. But then again, most are when they come to see us.
