Default Pruitt

Pruitt is our latest addition. As you can see, he's had a rough life. Several owners ago, hot oil was thrown in his face. He's been 'successfully" adopted several times since then.. In his last foster home, his beak was broken off when
a male beat his cage..the entire cage front was dented, and it was NOT a cheap cage...

He HATES men. He can and will jump 4+ feet to attack my poor husband. Dh's arms look like he has some sort of dread disease from all the scars & current bloody battle wounds...

Pruitt loves me He steps up, lets me play with his beak & feet, pet him anywhere...

The feather loss around his eye & the weeping of the eye are permanent due to the hot oil thrown in his face...That's okay, we think he's beautiful.

Who could ever do that to such a beautiful animal?! He is gorgeous, I'm glad he has a safe forever home now.

Yeah. well.... he just bit me Or tried to, with what beak he has left. I took pacino (YNA male) out for Dh on a stick...I was across the room w/ Pruitt...
Pacino somehow got across the room to me.. Pruitt panicked..and bit me w/ that itty bitty beak. Dh got Pacino upstairs, I got Pruitt to foyer...no blood loss tonight.

And here I thought this "hot 3 amazon male" stuff was a bunch of hooey

LOL !
Always a fun day here at the home for wayward birds!

My poor husband...He had pacino, our YNA male upstairs. Pruitt was on a tree near the front door. Dh came downstairs, Pruitt JUMPED him - again - the two amazon's were fighting on him...I was out in the garage, minding my own business (read that as smoking).

Next thing I hear is banging on the door..I walk in, Dh is bent over, Pruitt is biting him about the neck & head, and Dh is screaming is fool head off.... I put my hand out, and of course Pruitt stepped right up...Got him on a stand & went to find Pacino...He had jumped off Dh in the entryway.

Poor Dh...seems all our birds hate men.

I guess I need to let Pru out for out of cage during 8-5, while Dh is gone...
The bird is clipped, but can obviously jump a LOT farther than the 4 ft we thought...

Poor guys (Pruitt AND DH!)

Poor bird. And your poor husband! I'm sure Pruitt is thankful to be in a safe home now.

How long have you had Pruitt? Maybe you should try some Rescue Remedy in his water for awhile to relieve his anxiety. I agree that he should not have the opportunity to attack your husband like that. Despite the fact that his behavior is understandable, it should not be acceptable. Hopefully, they will be able to become friends through the bars of the cage first. You might benefit from a discussion with an animal behaviorist such as Corene Fry, http://www.beaktwobeak.com/
She helped teach me to desensitize my Charley, who came to me with the nickname "The Vampire" after the trauma of having the roof fall in on his cage during Hurricane Charley. Charley hasn't bitten me in a year now and tonight, for the first time, I held him without a towel or a butterfly net over him. Baby steps....
