Hmm...yeah. Just didn't realize it was going to involve becoming "blood brothers"!

nate, i thought quito was a GCC (shouldn't you be used to nippy birdies) LOL

glad to hear the bonding process is normally progressing - isn't making up the best part of all? he got scritches, you were happy - what does a little blood have to do with that, anyways (glad to hear things are going well though - as long as you only get nipped when you invade his territory without warning, the situation isn't bad at all )

So what I want to know is how did you manage to keep your cool and not react instantaneously to the bite? I've always heard that you should push toward the bird when it bites and not away -- of course, that is completely contrary to one's natural instinct!! I've been bitten a few times over the years and have yet had the presence of mind to push my hand toward the bird to make it let go. We always talk about how "hard-wired" male amazons are to defend their territory -- well, all I know for sure is this gal here is hard-wired to get my finger the heck out of a pinching/biting beak as quickly as possible!!

WoooHoooo fun fun fun, I done the same thing with Andy, I let my guard down and got what I deserved 4 stitches.
I was caught by surprize and jerked my arm away, BIG MISTAKE, he really had a good hold of me....LOL.
That was when he first came into his new home, 4 years ago.
Kinda smarts doesn't it?

Awe Nate, sorry. I hope it's feeling better real soon. Sounds like it could have been much worse. Good thing you had the presence of mind to just stand there and not pull away.

I'd like to say that it was intentional that I didn't pull back, but its probably more to do with my reactions not being what they used to be! Once he let go I didn't hang around long though, I'll tell ya. Yes Arty, it did kinda smart for a bit.

Hey, does this make me a "full blooded" member of Sanctonium Amazonium?

Ouch! Good for you for handling it so well. I would have started crying I'm certain. Or at the minimum yelled, and then cried.

So did Chico's little pet finch get to come home with him? I didn't see if you had already said that or not.

Good for you Nate - sounds like you'll do Ok.
You didn't freak when grabbed - maybe your littler ones have helped.

I kind of freeze when getting bitten. Mom's male Tiel had lots of time to saw away at my hand - just too afraid of hurting the bird to do much about it. I can never see myself owning a Zon so i think I'll be OK.

I think we learn best from our mistakes - i hope it will be along while before you make another. Who knows - maybe he won't bite again.

No, he stayed there, Vicky. Probably just as well, he was used to flying free in her birdroom, and the little feller would have gotten in trouble here with the whole house to roam.
