Re: newbee yn amazon questions, lots of them, help I have a 4 year old yellow nape named Stella who came to me when she was 6 months old. I got her from a petshop where her wings were clipped before she fledged -- thus, she never learned how to fly as a baby. Up until roughly a year ago I continued to clip her wings. I stopped when I came to the conclusion that it was healthier for Stella to be fully flighted. Because she never learned to fly as a youngster, her flight skills were non-existent and she remains a very reluctant flyer. I have now been around amazons that were allowed to fledge when young and keep their wings and they are, by far, more active than Stella.
I really do, therefore, encourage you to not clip Cha Cha's wings or, if you should choose to do so, waiting until after she is fully fledged and developed her flight skills.
I have to tell you that if all yellow napes are like Stella, you will be delighted to share your life with Cha-Cha. By the way, Stella was nearly a year old before she started talking but once she started, she never stopped!!! She sings up a storm and has an extensive vocabulary. And she has a wonderful sense of humor, which she exhibits every single day. I am so glad to have another nape owner here and greatly look forward to hearing all about Cha-Cha. Welcome!! |
