Re: New Chico pics - no bars! Thanks everybody, in spite of the fact progress has been slow, I'm proud of him. I think he tries, you can really see him working at it sometimes. He seems to be getting a bit more "needy" about wanting scritches, and hollering when I leave the room sometimes. He also seems quite jealous when I give attention to Quito and Tausi, like getting them out of their cages. In fact, that's one of the ways I can defuse him when I ask if he wants scritches and he won't calm down enough. Just go make a fuss over Tausi and Quito, give them some scritches. Then go to him, and he's ready for scritches too.
Its funny, even when he's grumpy and territorial, like when I'm wiping down the cage and he's striking at his toys and strutting around, a minute later I can go up to the cage and give him scritches. Its like he doesn't hold a grudge or anything, and its nothing personal, its just something he has to do! Only once in a while does he seem to really be bothered about something and really can't be approached. Usually when he's in that mood he'll just sit on the perch and quiver, he's so keyed up.
I started out being really worried about Quito landing on his cage, and I still watch closely out of the corner of my eye, but he's surprisingly tolerant of smaller birds. Suppose I should have known that from the finch in his last home that came and went through the bars of his cage, and would sit next to him on a perch. |
