We got a couple birds in yesterday and one is Sweet Pea a Blue Front Amazon who is 88 yrs old !!! she looks great and is so sweet, loves to talk.
her owner was no longer able to give her the care she needed,so she came here to live out her life.
I will get some pics up soon.

88?! WOW! Blue Fronts are not even supposed to live that long! I understand that the longest lifespan in captivity is about 40 years and they are one of the species that has been most documented as they have been kept as pets in South America for many years... I once heard of a 60 year old in Argentina but they had no papers to prove it so who knows if it was true. And only two owners? Now, that is most definitely a record because that would mean that they both had her for over 40 years each.

If her age can be documented, you should contact the Ornithological Society, Barb, I am sure they will be very interested.

I knew someone who had an amazon in it's 80's, it was his grandmothers bird ( and she had the bird it's entire life ) and was passed down to him and he was in his 20's at the time he got the bird. He used to have the most amazing stories about that bird. The bird would sing all sorts of dirty sailor songs while the grandmother was having tea with her friends. It's so nice to see birds live out a full and happy life with not having to go from home to home. I'm glad your new arrival was well cared for.
