Kelly, what an awesome idea. I'm all over that! Let's see:

Abigail
Adora
Liza Loo
Rico & Rosita (one month -- can't be separated)

Yellow Nape
Mealy
Lilac Crowned (probably need two of them, LOL)
Orange Winged
Red Lored
Spectacled
Panama
Hawkhead (They think they're Amazons, anyway.)

Any other ideas/suggestions?

How about a Cuban Amazon Joanie ..... You, Kelly and others have gotten me also interested in the Amazon species, I may just break down myself and get me one or two or Twelve. LOL

If I could rehome all my breeder Tiels, I would specialize only in the African species of Parrots (Greys, Meyers, Jardines & Sennies) & also Ekkies, Caiques, Amazons (probably only D.Y.H.s & Y.N.s). Sound like a plan? Of course I also may then need at least five acres to set up my free flight aviaries - after I win the Lotto of course.

Anyone (qualified and set up properly) want a great deal on a great breeding flock of Tiels???

Yes, a Cuban Amazon is astoundingly beautiful and a great suggestion. Okay, let's replace the Panama with the Cuban.

Also, while we're at it, we need a pair of Hawkheads instead of just one. They're small and two of them are still not quite as big as a small 'zon.

What a great idea to breed the Ekkies, Caiques and some 'zons, along with your African species. Five acres, huh. Hmmmmmm .... LOL.

Does the lady who gave me Spunky and One-Eyed Jack still have her pair of DYHs? They were really lovely.

I wonder if amazon lovers tend to always like hawkheads too? I say that because I have long wanted to have a hawkhead ever since I saw my first one over a year ago in a pet shop and I, of course, adore amazons. If I ever get another amazon, I am aiming for a female DYH. Their coloring is so beautiful and the stories about your pair do nothing to quell my amazon fever!!

Your list of amazons and the hawkheads is pretty darn impressive Joanie. I think you've got some major shopping to do girl!! LOL

Deal Joanie!!!!! At least one pair of Hawk-Heads it is. Or maybe 2 or 3 pairs if Gary/J.R. and Kelly want in. ... Now if we could only find a few different Blood-Lines so we can get started (Hmmmmmm.....).

Btw, maybe we will also be lucky enough to even find someone who loves birds, someone who just happens to have five acres to breed them on - sooner or later - in this life-time hopefully.

I'll ask that lady if she still has that pair - you wouldn't by any chance be getting that Amazonian itch again = to say maybe expand your flock one more time. LOL .....

Kelly, I saw that "Jean - the African Queen" had Hawk-Heads (if my memory serves me correctly) when I was at her house (yrs. ago), not sure if she still does? Anyone know off-hand if she is now breeding them? Maybe we could get a good deal if we buy a few at the same time.

Note: However, I myself was not really overly impressed with their normal un-excited looks all that much, even though they are quite unique in appearance. The flaring of the head feathers into a birdie type Indian Head-Dress is beautiful I admit but how often do they really do that? ....... Gary/JR ???

I don't know if Jean Pattison still has Hawkheads, but the people in Mango who sold me Jason's B&G also breed Hawkheads. At the shows I've gotten to spend quite a bit of time playing with their babies and was impressed by them. Mango is not too far from the Tampa area.

Why Hawkheads? I'm not sure -- they just fascinate me with that silly ruff. Also, they've got that spunky attitude that makes the Amazons so dear to my heart.

Joel, your comment about their appearance was just how I initially reacted to the 'zons. They just seemed so much less flamboyant than, for instance, the Macaws. Then I got to know them and realized how much their personality appeals to me ... and it was all over.

Joanie, I can relate to your initial reaction to amazons. I remember when I first saw the yellow nape clutch, from which I eventually got Stella, I thought they looked like green pigeons and almost dismissed getting Stella. But then I read up on amazons and the more I got to know, the more I fell in love with the species. Stella was my first parrot and she will always hold a special place in my heart. I sometimes worry that getting another amazon will cause her to become extremely jealous -- I already deal with that with her when it comes to my other birds and think it could be worse if she saw me with another 'zon -- just dont know for sure. But 'zons are special, special parrots -- so darn spunky!! Stella is a real "character" -- and I mean that in a good way. I love that bird!

It's always a question, isn't it, whether to keep just one or more. It's a lot like having kids. Some couples stop at one and that's fine. Others end up with a whole houseful and find enough love for all of them. Liza Loo was my first 'zon and i had some concerns about bringing others in. Although it seems that most of my 'zons are jealous to one degree or another, it truly isn't a problem. Like kids, each as his or her own personality. The personality dictates the interaction, to some degree.

Speaking of which, as you know I'm renting a room from a friend of mine while I'm selling/building. Jacki has a Rhodesian Ridgeback, Sadie, who has a play date who comes over every week for an evening. George came charging into my room a few minutes ago and I escorted him out. As I did, Rosita started calling, "B-U-S-T-E-RRRR!!!" Buster is a dog owned by Rosita's former owners. I guess she wasn't ready for George to leave and wanted him back. It was so cute.
