The Mexican Red head Amazon/Green Cheeked Amazon
(Amazona Viridigenalis)
The Mexican Red Head Amazon (Amazona viridigenalis) is an even tempered relatively quiet parrot and colorful bird. They possess talking ability in the medium to high range and seem to enjoy the company of visitors and bond closely to their owners. Their heads are crowned with a striking red hue and a lavender blue band extends from above the eyes to the neck, making for a very unique look. This is a very good choice for those who are inexperienced with Amazons.
In 1997, this endangered Amazon was listed on the CITIES Appendix 1. They were once quite common in the United States. Now that export from Mexico is illegal they are much harder to find and are only occasionally available for sale as pets.
