Smile Meet Maggie!

I would like to introduce Maggie, our Red Lored Amazon.

Maggie is presumed female (I disagree) and over 16 (we suspect between 20-25 yrs).

She was dropped off to us by a couple who had purchased her from a pet store only to discover her to he less than friendly. So they brought her to me.

We have been working with her tirelessly. Maggie is a wild caught import bird who has been pinioned. For those who are not aware, pinioning is where they used to cut a portion of the wing off in order to disable a birds flight. It was very common with import birds.

When she first came to us she bit, screamed, she was all around terrified and cantankerous. She was on a seed and mostly peanut diet and has moderate scissor beak. She was dirty and smelled of urine. Was she abused? Maybe. Was she neglected? Probably. Was she mis understood? Definitely.

Type "Big Maggie" in to the youtube search. I have a few videos that show how far she has come.

It is amazing what unconditional love and acceptance will achieve.
Maggie is an exceptional bird and will join me this summer at our local library with Mr. Maggie(cockatiel). We will be teaching young children the realities about these magnificent "wild" animals.

What a neat idea taking her to the library. She's on lucky birdie to be living with you now. Now she can truly be free to be a bird.
