Welcome home Chico! It will take some effort to get him to move around... amazons are the laziest birds on the planet if you let them be. Lots of small perches (not stretching all the way across the cage) with some thought out spacing in between so he has to stretch and reach to access a toy or food will help a lot in getting him to move.

Congrats Nate!! I'm so glad he is home. He definitely is a looker regardless of his roundness.

Oh yeah, right!<insert smilie of profusely bleeding me here>I have no evidence that he's ever stepped up for anybody! I think his former owner used to occasionally open his cage and let him come out on his own, and I know she had a capture net to get him back in the cage. So I'm reasonably sure that he never stepped up for her. The owners before that kept him in the basement with their Rottweilers, so I'm pretty sure there was no handling there. Don't know how long they had him. His original Spanish speaking owner? Who knows? He's supposedly 15 to 20 years old, and I guess I have to assume he's never been taught how to step up.

So ... how did Chico do with the kitchen sink last night? I bet he chowed down, didn't he?

Actually, last night's menu ended up being Volkman's Soak&Serve, with some added lettuce and pine nuts. Can't say that he exactly chowed down, but he did eat some. He's also munched a few pellets. Right now I just gave everyone some birdybread with some lightly steamed broccoli and a few Blueberries thrown in for good measure. We'll see how that goes.

I missed the thread where you described him, and I just went back and found it. Thanks for giving this guy a chance!!! It looks like he has had a rough go of it and deserves someone like you who may be able to turn his life around. I'm hoping for only the best for you and Chico.
